What or who are the "Google Spider" and a similar Yahoo whateverspiderthing?

You see them if you search for online guys. Could sound frightening for a personal computer safety especially if you use free spyware...

google yahoo and many other search engines trawl the web for sites and 'read' the site and then cache it, so when you google 'smax forum' it should come up with this site ...i'm pretty sure this is what you are talking about it andrei...

Yes I understand that Stan, but ones I have surprised one searching in the personal data - profiles. Don't like it, even if I have a pro antispam/spyware and antivirus. The profiles will be visible on the net - not necessarily what everybody wants (i.e. Russell, if it is not a kind of advertisement for him of course (tell me if I should remove this sentense))

as I understand it

these are advanced bots from Google interrogating the site - back in the good old days of 2004 google slung out a bot every 4-6 weeks and that was it (mostly)

now they are doing things very differently with stuff going out all the time - it plays havoc with those of us having to separate 'real' hits on websites from bots, even with the most advanced analytic software as not all bots are labelled....zzzzz I'm putting myself to sleep here so I'll shut up.

bottom line dont post anything online you arnt happy about sharing with the whole world - as times are a changing...

basically what Zozzer says.

Its the search engines way of caching the site so when someone search "2.5T S-MAX mods" or whatever, it will locate our site and put it up as an option.

Profiles are visable for all to see anyway, well at least the stuff thats openly visable when you click someones username, most things are located behind the scenes on a database that gogglebots dont see.

At least they are not spam bots.

I get sick & tired of spam messages offering me a 9 inch p3ni5

I mean why would I want to halve the length of it?

The thing is - all of a sudden some time ago I started to receive spam mails from some vendors on my mail address, which I normally don't give away easily. The one I used to register on this site...

could be spam bots harvesting addresses, could be a leak at the ISP, could be (although I hope not) sponsors getting access to the dbase - its a sad fact of life that over 40% of all email traffic is not authentic/direct approved contact :(

Google Choicemail. I've been using it for over two years and it stops 99.9% of spam entering your Inbox. No connection to the company apart from a very satisfied user.
