Scary,

I've just fitted a towbar and wiring kit myself, in the end I bought a complete dedicated wiring kit as I needed all of it but I did ring Allen Ford first and they did quote seperatly for the module/relay thing and all the other bits, however as a set it worked out dearer than what I got it on the net for.

As an aside, what do you make of Allen Ford, the service blokey I spoke to was next to useless when I asked about upgrading the Convers+ system to include the trailer module, didn't get teh impression he knew what I was on about, actually did I even know what Iwas on about myself

Hi WB,
Any chance of any photos of towbar and how it fits, I am looking to buy one within the next few days and was looking at Westfalia detachable.

Thanks

Find them generally ok but you need to push them. Also their technical guidance at certain times has been questionable, in my opinion.
I find this site is invaluable particularly if you go armed with others experiences for example. But I will use again, and they do a good service deal - last one was about £120 I think including brake fluid change. Prefer to have them on my side rather than not............:poke:

The instructions on my Witter was pretty straightforwards, in fact as mentioned in another thread somewhere I let my lad (he's 10) take the lead. Ok so I did all the donkey work lifting, tightening etc etc but I let him work out and tell me what went where (yes I did keep a check myself!), same as for the electrics, in his words 'easy peasy lemon squeezy'! Oh and before anyone asks I cut the bumper myself, you think I'm letting my 10 year old loose on my car when he's admitted his favourite tool for fixing things is a hammer

What I'm trying to say is fitting a twobar is such a simple task and by letting my boy work out what went where just proves it. Don't be daunted by it at all, like scarey says there are other threads on here that'll show you how to do it and go have some fun with the money you save from the fitting costs :grinning:

I've just had a Witter detachable installed, will try to get a couple of pics posted up when I get back home later this week if you like.

Thanks Camsmax,

great pics, I not sure which to have now the witter or the westfalia.

On the electrics is the plug the euro 13 pin and if so do you know which harness was used?

I have the individual with the rear apron and I am trying to produce a template to minimise the cut out as it will be on show, as for the plug thinking of trying to hide this at the bottom of the apron some how. I found a photo on line of a decent attempt but do not like the plug cut out. If anyone has any other ideas on how best to fit a tow bar I am all ears!

Hope this works - images added

The holes could be tidied up with some rounded edging strip to make it look a little neater. Not ideal though.

Magwhy,

My neighbours have the MS Design bodykit and I'll bet their cut-outs for their towhitch weren't as neat as the Danish one you found there! :boxed:

You do need a certain amount of extra space for the drop-down socket, but I would think the hole could be smaller as you don't need to put your entire hand in the recess to move that.

Fortunately, due to the terrible cutting job my Ford dealer did on my rear bumper, mine is out of sight!
