I was just thinking a set of lower fog lamps a la Galaxy would look good on the S Max and even more so on the facelift version. It looks like the metal work hasn't been touched at all so the revisions could be carried over to earlier cars

You can cut out where the front fake vents are in the S-Max bumper and fit Galaxy fog lights ... should you wish.
Check out the pics of Ford Fair 2007; there's an example of it in there.

ok Ford I'll give this one away for free

its nice and snappy and will fit into your powerpoint management presentation for Q1 2010-2011

***

The SMAXs USP is that no other MPV has the market perception of "Sportyness" amongst its owners and potential owners.

It has been generally well received by the motoring press. The SMAX is a car that people want to buy.

Ford need to move sections of the brand more towards the A1/A2/B1/B2 demographic to enhance brand perception which is going to be very important in the next 5 years before the Chinese start flooding the market.

The SMAX can be a key driver in Ford Europes marketing aim to move the brand upwards towards a more profitable per unit model range.

Perception is everything, making the SMAX profile and front aspect more rounded, while keeping the safety people happy, will impact sales a lot as the cars perception will be that it is less "sporty". It will therefore lose its USP.

Instruct design team to either redesign the front profile and nose again or stick with existing front aspect with minor detailing changes.

I can be contacted via the site admins if you want any more brand management design consultancy - next time it wont be for free.

sorry for the interruption of the 'flow' chaps

Oh dear.

My 12 year old has just seen the photos, and called the new s-max "cr*p"
Closely followed by my 10 year with more or less the same opinion.

The main observations were why was it so low down, agreed the half thought about chrome on the side was rubbish, and unlike most of you fellow S-MAOC members did not like the rear lights. Also not too sure about the shape of the front.

Does not bode too well for a simple change of s-max next year for me.

Unless Ford do not carry out these changes

What about anyone else due to change next year?

Just a thought here.

If it's 'just' a cosmetic uplift, then why is the car so low & what's in the trailer?

Strikes me that they're testing something more than aerodynamics.

Is there a new engine under that bonnet?

Paul.

I think you maybe onto something there :brow:

I agree that the car looks a bit odd with all that weight dragging the back down. I suspect that it will look a lot better in the metal.

Hate the chrome, but I have always loved the S-max's round fog lamps, sets it apart from the Galaxy, and every other car for that matter.

Front end, well, looks more like a pug dog than the present catfish, but as long as everything else I like about the S-max stays the same I could live with that.

Back end, which in my view has been the weakest in terms of styling, better.

Hurrah, no sliding doors, which would have been a big no no on my part.

Now all Ford need to do is introduce a slightly more imaginative colour palette. But I suspect it will be the usual 3 silver options, black, and a few others.

Booooooooo - have been patiently waiting for the newlook/facelifted Smax and if this is it, well, am very disapointed. Hubby took one look and suggested I got the Fiat 500C instead. :crys:

Mmmmm, not sure I like the back now either, not keen on that ridge through the Ford badge and I have to agree with most others on the 'half a job' chrome strip.

Could it be more chrome, possibly bits left over that didn't fit the rear side windows? :grinning:

I think the chrome is an attempt to boost profits.

Ford re-design a much loved car with really cr*p added chrome , then add a £50 de-chrome box to tick on the options list.

Simples!

Definite thumbs down now. They've butchered the front end. Idiots !

Reshaped bootlid probably means that retro fitting the LED rear lights is a non starter as well :censored:

Bit naughty the way they've looped the trailer breakaway cable around the towbar.

Ford SHE people should give them a right kicking for that.

Greetings all - my 1st post here. My wife is in the process of buying a 2.5T. I've talked to 3 dealerships (here in Poland) of which 2 denied any knowledge of a facelift and 1 confirmed that Ford Poland have notified them that the orders they take now would be slated for October production and the model would be the facelifted one. Given that the Gent factory was closed in August my guess would be that they are already tooled up for the facelifted version and that the prefacelift cars cannot be ordered any more.

Do you guys think that if we order now that there is a risk of getting the current car? Would be much peeved if this was the case and would prefer to hold out at least until they spill the beans in Frankfurt to be 100% sure. We're looking at Titanium S spec with glass roof, alcantara and some other goodies so I wouldn't think they'd have one in stock and it would probably have to be made to order.

Welcome PoleApart

In the UK you would be able to specify on the order what model year you were ordering, can you do that in Poland?
You are right, it probably would be made to order, but better safe than sorry until you have actually seen a facelift S-Max if you can't specify MY

BTW Love to see some pics of Titanium S when you eventually get it!

Thanks for the welcome. Nope, Polish dealers bar one were all mum about the facelift so official version is we'll be getting the current model. From what I've seen of the facelift I like, especially rear lights which to me are the biggest let down on S-Max and Mondeo. I also love what the German premium brands are doing with daylight running lights. In my country we need to have lights on 24/7 and fancy DRL's look the biz. Even the Insignia has them so I'm curious what Ford has come up with for the S-Max.

We're petrolheads who have just had their (unsuspected ;) )3rd and our 5 series is just too tight for 3 kids. My wife is moving from a Volvo V50 2.4 5 cylinder so we know and like the power plant in naturally aspirated form.

Interesting that the choice was no contest. There really is nothing on the market which is fun to drive, looks decent, has decent performance and will fit 3 kids in separate seats in the back. Why the 2.5T doesn't have a decent slushmatic boggles the mind though. I had a tough job convincing the wife that she'll do without. Even a C4 Picasso has a paddle shift just like on an M5 or a Porker.

Whatever we end up with I will post pics - I get new car frenzy and get quite active on the relevant forums and this seems like a decent one :)

You are quite correct, in fact this is the NUMBER 1 forum.
If there are questions to be answered about an S-max someone is almost certain to know the answer.

Even though i do not know when the 2010 version will be produced, i was not expecting it until next May from what i originally gathered early this year.
But as it is at the Frankfurt show it will probably be earlier.

I am certain you will be more than happy with whatever you get!

Happy S-maxing

I would have thought that if the C-Max was being 'launched' at Frankfurt then the S-Max would be later next year...

Anybody KNOW?

good spot

just catching up with things

these shots confirm my fears that the health and safety/eco wonks have got their hands on the SMAX and are pushing it towards some perceived more family, less sporty demographic.

STOP IT NOW AND GO AND DO SOME MEANINGFUL BUYER RESEARCH FORD.

Clearly I'm a lone voice in the wilderness here, but...

I quite like that!

I think it's sharpened up the nose a bit and given it a slightly more 'aggressive' look. The back looks good too.

Those chrome strips down the doors, however, are awful!

It seems as if the new C-Max won't be on sale until the second half of 2010, so this might mean that the facelifted S-Max will appear before then. I am also about to put an order in for a new S-Max, but will only do so when I know it's the facelifted model.

I'd be curious what UK dealers will tell you. If a Polish one knows something then I would expect the UK ones to know too. On all the Frankfurt links I've seen there isn't a single mention of the S-Max facelift being shown.

Don't we have FMC employees on this board? Maybe they could spill the beans. If dealers know then it's almost public, right? ;)

Ditto on the colours - we wanted the bright blue metallic. The current pallete is soooooo conservative and boring. Where are the bright oranges and blues?
