Most S-Maxes are still less than 3 years old, hence why most are with dealers.
Second hand prices have risen this year due to lack of demand for new cars & everyone going for secondhand.
Best places are autotrader, Ford Direct and Ford dealers.
Bear in mind that you are also looking at the most popular engine as well.
Supply & demand my friend!
where were you a month or so ago when I was umming and arring over Jims car and was looking to get the best price for ours  - oh well
I may be considering selling my 2.0 TDCi but it is a Zetec not the Titanium so not sure it would be of interest?
I need to get it valued first, I tried WeBuyAnyCar who tend to offer below market value, I have no idea what it is worth at the moment, I'm going to head to the dealers today or tomorrow to get a valuation on it.
I'm facing redundnacy and will need to find cheaper wheels. If you are still looking and this interests you please PM me if you'd rather discuss outsode of the forum.
Regards
Grahame
sorry to hear your job loss grahame, i'm sure you will be able to sell your smax for a reasonable price..second hand motors seem to go well at the moment..
Mine's just been sold as well. You could try asking Dagenham Ford has any used 2.0 TDCI comig in this month with a spec similar to mine.
They may actually be moving it onto another dealer shortly after, but you never know...just an idea.

Thanks, it's not confimred yet, but I have been told I am in scope for it, my company are looking to make 1200 positions redundant, I may survive I just don't know at the moment.

Damn you lot, you have now got me thinking and I can't even believe this!
My 2008 '58' 2.0TDci Titanium in Panther Black that I have had for 6 months, webuyanycar.com website is coming up with a price the same as I paid for it 6 months ago what with me putting on 7000 miles! Depreciation free motoring for 6 months!
drivethedeal is showing new ones with Metallic and USB for £17,800 - so it seems ridiculous that I can swap and have 1 years more warranty, brand new tyres all round for only £800!
I also see that the dealer I bought it from is advertising to buy cars back at the moment - I wonder if they will meet the webuyanycar price?
Sorry to hear about your situation Grahame hope it goes in your favour! If you were to sell what sort of price would you be looking for as I am still looking to buy!
Can I get back to you! I need to go to my dealer to get a valuation on it, I am sure they won't want to buy it off me as these days I would imagine dealers want to take money not give it away.
Once I have an idea of it's sale value I will get back you, I also need to consider what I need to get another set of wheels of reasonable age and mileage. I'm set on a MOndeo but probably the old shape not the current one, but I need to see what they are going for so I have an idea of what I can stash back in the bank for the impending rainy days.
If the price webuyanycar are offering is genuine, mine's going to them in a couple of weeks.
2.0 Titanium TDCi March 08/08, 14,000 miles. Metallic silver. Options: tray tables and tyre pressure monitoring.
WBAC are offering 15.5 - 16K, depending on the number of scuffs/scratches I mention, which I intend to get sorted out beforehand. If you're interested at that sort of price, PM me.
Someone on this forum suggested when you take the valuation to WBAC don't declare any scuffs upfront so you get the highest starting price. They will innevitably try and knock a bit off regardless so best to start higher!
I'm not so sure about WBAC! I got a quote from them which turns out to be about £2k less than my dealer said I could get for it if I sold privately.
It may be worth getting your dealer to value it for you too before you sell it.
I've had a close look at the site and all I'll say is tread very very carefully

Keeping everything crossed for you mate, keep us posted.
Zozzer - I've done some research and it's clear they're quite genuine, though how they manage to give such impressive amounts is a bit beyond me! A friend got exactly what they quoted, someone else couldn't sell their car privately but got £900 more than they were asking from WBAC.
It could be that SH car dealers make more from finance than from the cars, and given that there's a desperate shortage of good stock at the moment they're willing to make almost nothing on the car in order to get the finance payback.
Looking to offload my second car, as I have a company car on order.
http://www.wewillbuyyourcar.com/ offered more, and seemed pretty good (e.g. electronic instant transfer "free")

I have a 2.0 tdci titanium automatic diesel that is two years old, 17000miles. It is a company car on a lease, which we pay, which expires soon. I have the option to buy at gbp14000. We like the car and are considering buying this one to run it for the next 2-4 years rather than taking on another lease vehicle. Is this a good deal ? Does anyone know about the expected depreciation of SMAX in the next 2-4 years
Shellmax,
On the face of it £14,000 doesn't sound too bad, but from experience the lease companies always try to charge too much for their vehicles.
When I handed back a 2003 Volvo V70 D5 SE AWD to the lease company in 2006 they wanted £12,000 for the car despite the fact that it had just had its 84,000 mile service and the next service was a "biggy" with cambelt due to be changed.
I declined their ever so kind offer and AKAIK it went to auction where I suspect it sold for less than £12,000.
In other words I'd play hard ball with them. Have you tried entering your car on to the "We Buy Any Car" website to get them to value it? That might help.
In terms of depreciation I don't think anyone really knows what will happen as the earliest cars are now only just 3 years old.
What you might try is asking your lease company to quote you for a personal lease or a PCP and see how they see values over the next 2, 3 or 4 years. If anyone has a decent handle on the prices it should be them.
That said secondhand prices plummeted last year, then went back up this year, so does anyone really know?
Sorry to be inconclusive.
Paul

thanks for the advice - I have tried the we buy any car website and they offer 15435 so 14000 sounds ok.
Alternative question is whether there are any better deals on 2 year old 7 seater mpv for 14000 ?
I'm sure that there are deals on cars such as the VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra as they are old models.
Surely you're better off staying with a car you know is ok mechanically?

wife and kids like the SMAX - plenty of room and, as you mention, we know the history and it runs well, so as ,14OOO appears to be a reasonable deal, we will stick withthis car. The aston martin will have to wait until the kids have left home..............
