Stardust Silver, 13,500 miles, £15,900

Autotrader ad here (http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200938342033379/search-target/usedcars?atcide=emgm3&logcode=emf).

Need the cash to buy a 2.2...

Well if that's the price you are after that's exactly what wewillbuyyourcar.com will offer you. I must confess I popped in your details form the ad to see. Hope you don't mind.

That said aorivate sale would be nicer - but if it's cash you want?:8):

Companies like "wewillbuyancar.com" will adjust their website estimates (down?) once they've inspected the car. As I understand, they turn over high volumes at Auctions so only look to make a few hundred £ per car.

That said, it may still be good to see what they'd pay you once they've inspected. A sale's a sale after all.

There are mixed reports really - depending on what you are selling but personally speaking if I was asking £15,900 and they paid me £15,500 I wouldn't be too unhappy as I'd expect a private buyer to haggle the price a little bit.
Thaty said I've no direct experience here so it's just my opinion.

Print out the quote from 'we buy any car' then when the private 'tyre kicker' brigade come round and try to knock you down over petty issues, hand them the quote, put your nose on theirs and say "listen mate, i've already been offered more so take your eyes off, your dirty mitts off, and f**k off"
Works for me.
Now where's that anger management CD.

I was once selling a year old Escort. It was immaculate.

This tyre kicker came, made a silly offer, and told me he could get one cheaper at Trade Sales in Slough.

So I took the Steve TR approach and told him to go to Slough and buy one!

Then he had to cheek to try and make me a bigger offer! Needless to say I refused to sell it to him.

Dodge,

Are you sure that you're car is 159 g/km?

That was a new figure intro'd quite recently.

IIRC the older 2.0 TDCi's are 175 g/km?

Wouldn't like some picky individual to try & pull you up on that one.

I have just got my tax disc renewal and it says mine is 164g/km. Mine is 2008 model. I'm confused now!

My 175 might be wrong as I bought the car in the summer of 2006 and much Stella has flowed through my brain since then.

As I understand it on the 2.0TDci

before 2008.5MY was 164 - i.e. the ones without the chrome door inserts (titanium)
after 2008.5MY it was 159 and subsequent £15 reduction in Road Tax :)

I think it has been reduced again since, but is still in same band for Road Tax as the 2008.5MY ones

Looking at the picture of the one you are selling I see it is missing the chrome door inserts so I would expect it to be in the 164 band and hence the advert is incorrect.

I suspect this is an autotrader issue though (and not yours) as I have seen the same with my local dealer adverts on their own website - i.e. it pulls the standard (current) information from somewhere else and not matches it to the age of the vehicle being sold.

That 159 figure was put into the ad automatically by Autotrader. My log book actually says 169. So we have a choice of 159, 164, 169 or 175...

As to webuyanycar, I've got it booked in with them on Monday. But to be honest there are a few scuffs on the paintwork, and I'm expecting them to knock down their offer significantly. If someone offers be a figure close to that above over the weekend, then I'll take it.

Sold it to a broker from Coventry who took the train down, paid me the agreed price and drove it away. Gave me £15,500, which to be honest I was very happy with given the condition (I'm not too good at looking after cars I'm afraid!)

Now to put the order in for the 2.2. It's going to cost me £2.5 before options for the upgrade, or £3K with metallic paint. Can't be bad.

Blimey!

That's a swift result.

*Wonder if he fancies paying me that sort of cash for mine...*

I don't understand. Does this mean they've got 47 new cars lying about that they have to sell in 12 days or they start exploding or something. Or does it mean they have to sell 47 new cars in 12 days to make their sales targets?

When heavy fines are imposed or the franchise is at risk, sales targets are a matter of life or death.

Alan,

Is it worth trying to help your dealer out?

Who is he, how do we contact him?

The dealer is Evan Halshaw, Priory Park in Hull. I'm surprised they are struggling as was very busy when I was in a few weeks ago. Plus it the only dealership in Hull and surrounding area after closing East Hull and Beverley dealerships.

I need to convince the missus to let me sell our 09 plate and get a 2.2 :)

I'd have my balls chopped off if I did though, it would go like this:

"Where is our car?"
"sold it for cost luv, but dont worry there is a 2.2 panther black xpack coming in 12 weeks"
"how do we get the fecking kids to school and you to work?"
"errrr"
<CHOP!>
