Before I went I armed myself with the Glass trade in price (around £10,000) so I knew what to expect and gave myself a pivot to haggle around.
He then produced his CAP black book and rather surprisingly told me the trade in value was £11,400 although my mileage was slightly over the indicated 40,000.
Despite this he then said he would give me £12,000.
After I picked myself up from the floor I asked for a pen before he realised what he just said.
The change over went very smoothly, and I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't make the handover time because of work commitments, he opened up shop at 7pm just so that I could still take delivery of my new car on the agreed date.
Not only that but he told me the valeters had applied a 10 year paint protection to the Mondeo at no extra charge.
Now that's service!
you done well there mate, does the mondeo drive much the same as the smax..

The ride is very similar although my Mondy has 17" low profiles and I am noticing a harsher ride - but cornering... well that's a whole new ball game combined with the tighter 6 speed gearbox, makes for very pleasant country lane driving as well as being just as good as the S-Max for eating motorway miles.
Fuel economy has also improved and tyres will be noticeably cheaper too!
and having familiar controls helps as well i bet...my nephew has an estate version and i'm sure it looks bigger than my smax, must be an illusion cos its lower...
Just spotted mine for sale here (http://www.hartwell.co.uk/asp/index.asp?lnk=102®noSBU=lx08puy&goSBUR.x=0&goSBUR.y=0&goSBUR=Search).
The asking price is almost exactly the same as I'm paying for its 2.2 litre replacement with extra goodies (I sold it to a broker for £15,500 if anyone's interested - there was some minor work needed to the exterior).

How do the dealers get away with these second hand forecourt prices? I bought mine new this year (09 plate); same spec and colour bar the privacy glass and sony audio system for substantially less than it is being offered for sale now.
Maybe I should sell mine now it is no longer current reg and get a new one. Could make a profit? :duck:
When you sold to broker was it a p/ex? If not, which broker was it please?
The broker contacted me from my Autotrader ad - but the price he paid was about the same as that offered by webuyanycar.com.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could make a profit by buying a new car and selling it immediately.
I guess the answer is that most people don't know of the likes of drivethedeal, or want a local dealer, or part-ex, or whatever.

Wow - for £2.5k less than a brand new one through a broker, they're offering a 3 year old car with 34k miles on the clock ! I think we are looking at the slowest depreciating car in the UK....
