you say should fit would it be a case of take the old one out and put the new one in?

I believe it would be a case of out with the old and in with the new(plug and play).
Would just need to route the GPS antenna.
The only issue you may have is if you have BT/VC. Then there may be a compatability issue, but that may be able to be rectified with a software update at the stealers. But like you say Steve should be able to varify this

Mr.G you are correct in assuming BT/VC would be a problem and it is also unlikely that this would interface correctly with a 2006/2007 convers as the software level would not be high enough (and Ford do not seem to be-able to upgrade old convers to the current level+the vehicles this was intended for do not have convers).
BT/VC/USB should be possible by adding a focus loom and focus 8 series BT/USB module, but again you would not get all the info on convers.
So if you have a 2006 LX/Zetec with no BT/VC then this should plug and play although personally I wouldn't bother unless you can get it for less than £300 - which I somehow doubt, but nice find all the same.
