So as a SMOC member I should be able to access the closed forums, which I can't, even though I was made a full member? Could Staff check please?

just wanted to thanks the staff for having made the "how 2 guides" a paid section :( :x :x

it was usefull, and I was up to upload informations about the project I'm gonna finish in the front bumper, but as it is, I won't...

it's a pity that such good sections are reserved...

thx martin, I know I can join for 9£, but pay for only see one section is quite expensive... no ?? :?

I saw it was granted access on smoc1, but as I saw it was free now, I told myself it was a very good idea ... so, I logged in in the new version...

now it's already restricted...

nevermind, i'll see the free sections :(

c ya

tex france, you will probably find that the donations help pay for the whole site so members can view the free sections...running a site like this does cost money...

sorry to tell you the truth, but a site like this one doesn't cost really a lot of money

ads can easily pay for it...

I've made a site with a friend, and it cost not enough money to make it a member's paid one....

the more, is that you can pay for a site, in the case of maintenance while a crash like this forum had....

paying for well saved informations/forum is ok, and then a little expensive, but paying for non secured data is too much expensive...
and, £9 for only one section (in my case) is too much expensive... sorry

i say it, the ads can easily pay for all ;)

Yes,
it is the only payed smax forum out of 5 I visit. I am pretty sure the forum can survive without 9£ fee from each member.
On the other hand by paying you probably prove that you are "serious". You know like if you sell your car and put it on free web sites or you go and pay to lacentrale - two different things. Besides the forum resides in the UK and for some reason car forums in UK are all payed - not sure why as you can't do a great business with 9£/person a year it's much less than a SMIC :D

For my part I thought 9£ is nothing really so why not. I like the bunch of people here and wanted to join. Pity some of the most entertaining troublemakers are not here anymore... Well still many friends left, that's probably worth several quid, isn't it?

Salut Tex

The reason why ads are not paying for the forum is because i dont want flashing ads everywhere, nothing annoys me more when visiting a website.

Also out of the £9 more than half of that is taken by the stickers that are sent out.

And yes websites dont cost much to host, but when you have a forum which holds a lot more data than a simple website it costs more to have the space on the server.

The new software that is being introduced soon, also costs money as to updates. So for £9 the club is actually making next to no money at all.

For that reason as off 1 September 2008, the membership will go up by £1 as we now have to pay VAT on the stickers.
