Hi all I recently purchased the 58 plate above with 13k mile and have had 3months of worry free motoring the wife and kids love the car. However yesterday the engine malfunction light started to come on then go off. Tends to be when going up hill. Has anyone had similar problems and will it be expensive to put right?
Thanks

I had this two months ago.

The engine malfunction light would come on and the car would go into 'get me home' mode, very low revs, max 25ish MPH. I had noticed that it had become a bit sluggish over the previous few weeks. I would pull over, turn the engine off, count to thirty, turn it back on and off we would go again. I should mention I know nothing about cars or how they work, for me the S-max looks good and it has seven seats.

Mines a May 08 Titanium 2.0d, so just over 2 years old and with only 10,000 miles which includes three trips from Kent to Dublin and back. Other than these long journeys the car potters aroung town on school and supermarket runs.

The dealer had it in twice. The first time they changed the fuel filter which didn't work and the second time they spoke to Ford who said that the turbo could be clogged up due to underuse!, it needed a good run. They took it for a half hour drive keeping the revs above a certain level. Hey presto the car is as good as new, quite nippy again and a pleasant drive if you need a seven seater. This may not be the cause for you but as I said I don't know or wish to know anything about cars and this is what they told me, and it has worked.

Good luck
