Hey All,
We are now (finally) in a position to get an S Max. I have been scoping out the possibility of this for some time, but we now have money in the bank waiting for the right car.
I am looking for a 2008 (or on) Titanium model, more than likely this will be a 2.5 petrol. I was toying with the idea of a 2.2 diesel but but I don't think we can afford the extra premium these command.
All extras are of course welcome, but as a minimum I would like to see Bluetooth, USB iPod connection, and a DAB Radio (all of which I think were standard on the 2008 and on models on in any case). I do quite like the idea of the panoramic roof, 18" wheels or x pack, improved instrumentation with sat nav, but of course this all depends on final cost. Ideally, I'm after a car with less than 50k on the clock, and of course in good condition
Over the past few months I have been looking at various vehicles on here, and other places. Prices can vary a lot, but for the model, spec age and condition I am after, they seem to come up between £8,000-£12,000. I will probably be looking at the upper half of this and have £10k ready right now.
There is a vehicle currently advertised on Auto Trader just under £11k that looks promising. Its a Panther Black 2008 with Panoramic roof, half leather, etc with 50k on the clock.
However, if anyone is looking to move on from there vehicle or knows of anyone that is selling such a vehicle, then please let me know.
This is like Blind Date -"I wish you a lorra lorra luck!"
Try sending a PM to asamalex who has a very high spec 2.5T, but I'm pretty sure £10K won't get it....

A 2008 model should have bluetooth but DAB was not available on models built before September 2008. USB was only an option after September 2008 (and is very difficult to retro fit to cars built before this date) so if these features are important, you may need to up your budget and look at 2009 cars.

Cheers, Guys. I have messaged asamalex but I think your right in that his machine would be out of my budget. I think £12k is going to be my limit.
The car in Auto Trader (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201138416854579/sort/priceasc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/maximum-mileage/up_to_60000_miles/fuel-type/petrol/price-to/14000/model/s-max/make/ford/radius/1500/keywords/titanium/postcode/sa18lz/page/1?logcode=p) was register on the 14/10/2008, although this gives no indication of manufactured date. I have asked some questions so will see what they say.

Cheers asamalex, I have replied via PM, and although I would love this vehicle, it does blow my budget out the water.

I do have the registration, but I just visited the Ford Etis (http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do) site and it seems that they will only do a search on VIN number. I will try and get hold of this.

I think you need to be a registered user (free) before you can search by reg.

Cheers Steve. The Garage did send the VIN but they were 1 digit short. Anyhow, your tip worked like a dream. The build date for this model was 03.09.2008, but I don't think that DAB is included based on the bits I have extracted from the "Minor Features". Not sure about USB though. Here's a short list of the pertinent bits however.
With A/V Jack
BT/VC Phone Interface Only
With Rear Window Aerial
High Level With CD And AM/FM Radio
Ice Feature Pack 6
With 8 High Series Radio Speakers
Telephone Prep Pack B - English
Voice Activated Module - British
Whilst I would like both USB and DAB, I could live with an after market DAB PURE Radio, although I will miss the iPod connection and Control.
Still, I'm not sure I can afford anything above this, so this might be as good as it gets for me.

If this model didn't have DAB you could retrofit the DAB head unit as these can be purchased at reasonable cost on feeBay.
Although USB was only £50 to add as an option, not many people did - so it will cost an additional £300 in parts to retro fit.

Looks like I might have found what I'm looking for. A 2009 (58) Titanium S Max with X Pack, Panoramic roof, 18" alloys, DAB and ICE kit (still not sure if this has USB, but Oh Well). 40k miles, and just under £11k.

Well, thanks guys for the input. I have now purchase the above S-Max 2.5l Titanium with X Pack as above. It ended up with 36,000 on the clock for just under £11k if anyone else what to price up a purchase or sale. Had an AA check completed prior to purchase and the only thing they came up with was extra thickness of paint on the rear passenger door (probably a respray at some point which lead to some lacquer sinkage, and soem interior trim coming adrift. To be fair though, these items were fixed prior to collection, so alls good.
I have seen a few more come in recently form around £10k but not quite to the spec of this one.
Now all I need to do I buy some missing item such as the rear tonneau cover, some floor mats and roof bars.
Nice car bud , was this a private trade or did you get it from a dealer please ?

I tried to get one privately, but everyone seems to want top dollar. Oddly, the best deals at the moment seem to be through dealers IMHO, which is where I got mine from.
I'm not sure what comes as standard on a Titanium SMax of this age, but I have things like half leather interior, fully heated and 6 way electronic movable and programmable seats, folding mirror with puddle lights. The ICE is also a higher spec with Sony 6 Disc and DAB headset, but still no USB. Although Steve TR said it would be expensive to retrofit, I don't mind a challenge and am looking into this possibility now.
