Cologne, January 19, 2010 – The benefits of a unique integrated Ford Mobile Navigation system option are now explained simply and clearly in short video clips available on the internet. This feature is one of a host of new driver-focused technologies that Ford of Europe is offering as part of an unprecedented programme of innovation across its model range.

The video clips, now available at www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com, or on YouTube (search 'Ford Mobile Navigation') demonstrate clearly how this innovative system offers customers the opportunity to bond their latest generation 'Smartphone' with their Ford In-Car Entertainment system (ICE) to provide a practical satellite navigation facility for drivers that rivals accessory units usually seen fitted to the windscreen inside the passenger cabin.

Ford Mobile Navigation is available as optional equipment in the Ford Fiesta, Focus,
C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models, and is currently offered in nine selected European markets, with more markets following soon.

Until Ford developed this specific vehicle technology, customers could not integrate in-vehicle navigation with a mobile handset. Now this is possible with Ford Mobile Navigation using one of the increasing number of Nokia and Samsung 'Smartphone' handsets being launched that are compatible with the Ford technology.

To be compatible, the customer's handset must be equipped with the latest Symbian Series 60 V3 Operating System which is required to make the system function. Currently, the Nokia and Samsung offerings account for around 50% of Smartphone sales globally.

Ford Mobile Navigation can be ordered as an option with Ford models that are equipped with Bluetooth®, voice control connectivity and USB connector. To obtain the system on a new car the customer can request that the dealer simply ticks a 'mobile navigation' box on the order form.

Easy to set up; Easy to operate
Ford Mobile Navigation has been designed to be intuitive and easy to operate and offers the full functionality expected of a regular Satellite Navigation system. Voice guidance is relayed via the car's speaker system once the phone has bonded with the vehicle's Bluetooth® system.

Turn-by-turn icons, estimated time and distance to destination are all displayed clearly for the driver, for example in the multi-function display of the Fiesta which is housed in the upper central area of the instrument panel. Focus, C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy drivers can view the navigation display in the instrument cluster HMI screen, located next to the speedometer.

The system supports 14 languages in text and voice, and provides map data of 23 Western-European countries. A GPS receiver installed in the vehicle guarantees optimum reception quality and – in combination with constantly transmitted vehicle speed data – provides maximum navigation accuracy. During navigation all of the normal audio system and telephone functions remain available without restriction.

"Ford Mobile Navigation is an extremely clever way of integrating the latest mobile information technology into a vehicle, providing easy and safe use. Ford's system is unique and clearly proves our commitment to offer customers the very best connectivity technology at an affordable price", said Stefan Pelzl, Supervisor of Infotainment Systems for Ford of Europe.

    Ease of Use Explained
To help customers understand the benefits of Ford Mobile Navigation, the company has produced a series of videoclips and posted these on various websites.

"Sometimes with a new feature that is being made available for the first time, customers may feel reluctant to try it as they don't understand what they will experience, or are afraid of being overwhelmed by the technology," explained Stefan Pelzl, Supervisor of Infotainment Systems for Ford of Europe. "With Ford Mobile Navigation, we believe any such fears are easily dispelled when the benefits and operation of the system are explained clearly, so we decided to show how accessible and simple this technology can be to customers who choose the latest Smartphones and want to get the best possible use from them. Our demonstration videos are designed to do just that."

Currently available in seven languages, these videos offer an easy to understand step-by-step introduction to how to install and use the system. "The fact that all of the system features can be explained in video clips that last around five minutes really proves the intuitive user-friendliness of Ford Mobile Navigation," Pelzl said.
